The son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, has expressed his backing for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term.

Naijaonpoint reports that Bello’s political affiliation contrasts with his father’s recent transition to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Bello, who serves as a member of the House of Representatives for Kaduna North, attended the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit in Abuja, where Tinubu was affirmed as the party’s exclusive candidate for the 2027 election.

This development follows his father, El-Rufai, departing from the APC in March 2025, citing that the party no longer aligns with his principles.

He subsequently joined the SDP and vowed to consolidate the opposition to challenge the APC in 2027.

Naijaonpoint reports that Bello’s endorsement of Tinubu has elicited various reactions on social media, with some netizens speculating that he could be a spy in the ruling party.

It is essential to highlight that the political division within the family intensified last year when another son of El-Rufai, Bashir, criticised Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani on social media.

He asserted that both would face defeat in 2027 and alleged that political motives drove the investigation into his father regarding the purported mismanagement of ₦423 billion.

“Nobody is too big to be ‘elected out of office’ by the people. It will happen & wallahi nothing will happen. So forget all these intimidations flying up and down. Let us be patient,” Bashir had written on his social media page.

See some reactions to Bello’s support for President Tinubu’s re-election below:

“@awosanyaremmy1 – He could be a spy in the party. And well, he also has the freedom of association.

@RufiBoy85 – You don’t seem to understand of Nigerian Politics. What if he working for his father within?

@mooo4sure – The son has no choice but to follow the winning team.
He knew his father was a failure, a town carrier.

@Esivuae – The young has his own life to live and a future.

@Abbah_9 – Bello’s Tinubu support doesn’t sink El-Rufai’s influence. Nigerian politics is bigger than family ties.

@Maliya_Ocean08 – Indeed, a man who has failed to even unite his own household has no single capacity to unite other people’s own, not talk of his ward, LG, Kaduna, Arewa, or even Nigeria.

@Sambest0706447 – This is where I find it difficult to understand Elrufai, because how will you be an opposition to your son we need to ask him.

@CHIDIEBERBRIGHT – 80% of those at that event will eventually dump Tinubu. It’s too early to work against him to avoid using federal agents to intimidate you. Come 2026, there will be some realignments.

@LawalOlugb39712 – APC is in panic mood for them to be passing vote of confidence on Tinubu at this time.

@marvinglesh – I have that strong belief and I reiterate that all this coalition minini is all political distraction by the grandmaster. They are only leading the opposition by the nose!

Naasiru will return to APC to slug it out with Ribadu and Kwankwaso for President in 2031. Mark this!

@Maga_Yila – I always say! If you want to get billions from subsidy removal funds that Tinubu is planning to use for 2027 elections.
Just promise 2027 to him that you will support him.

The mumu will fall for the lies like two days baby.

Even his boys celebrating the endorsement as an achievement.

@SamuelS64977 – The alliance between the North and South East sends Tinubu back to Lagos.

The South South governors don’t know politics, they should just wait patiently and learn from the northern governors who would not decamp rather stay back in Apc and mobilise voters against the incumbent.”
