Grammy award-winning singer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has claimed that the Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti is the only African artist greater than him.
Naijaonpoint reports that ‘Last Last’ crooner’s bold claim during a recent livestream with popular Australian streamer, Playboymax.
While describing Fela as king, Burna Boy boasted, “He [Fala Kuti] is the king. He is the only one [African artist] who is greater than me. He is the only one.”
While Burna Boy is currently one of the biggest artists in Africa, the hierarchy of the greatest African artists in history remains a debate.
Meanwhile, Burna Boy recently shared the story behind how his popular stage name was formed.
The Grammy-winning artiste spoke about it during a conversation with tennis legend Roger Federer, where he explained that the name came from his childhood interest in comic books and superheroes.
According to him, he often spent time drawing superheroes and even created his own characters.
Out of that creative process, he developed the name Burna Boy, which later became his identity in music.
He also linked his choice to his deep fascination with superheroes, saying he once imagined himself as one whose power would be connected to fire.
