The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide and Media Aide to former presidential candidate Peter Obi, Yunusa Tanko, has said his principal was not on the ballot in the recently conducted governorship election in Anambra State.
Naijaonpoint reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that a total of 584,054 votes were collated across Anambra State, with incumbent Governor Charles Soludo securing 422,664 votes in last Saturday’s election.
Soludo’s closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 99,445 votes. Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party polled 37,753 votes, while Labour Party’s (LP) George Moghalu came fourth with 10,576 votes. Other candidates include ADC: 8,208 votes and PDP: 1,401 votes.
Peter Obi had lost his polling unit to the candidate of the APC, Ukachukwu.
Speaking on Monday when he appeared as a guest in an interview on ‘Prime Time’, a programme on Arise Television, Yunusa Tanko said, “Peter Obi campaigned on the basis of being a Labour Party member.
“He did that to give George Moghalu the opportunity to present himself to the people.
“The candidate of Peter Obi was not on the ballot, Peter Obi is strongly supported by his people.
“Let me say this. 17 years ago, the same Peter Obi ran elections with the incumbent governor, Soludo and former governor Chris Ngige, and he beat them. I can tell you that when you put Obi and such individuals on the ballot, he will still beat them.”
