Security presence around the Abia State Government House, Umuahia, was significantly reinforced on Thursday following widespread public reaction to the judgment delivered by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which convicted the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

The heightened deployment is believed to be precautionary, given that Kanu’s country home is located only a short distance from the Government House.

By mid-afternoon, heavily armed police operatives were sighted at both the main entrance and exit gates of the Government House. Their presence drew the attention of pedestrians and motorists, many of whom slowed down to observe the unusual level of security.

Despite the visible security buildup, Umuahia remained generally calm. However, the atmosphere across the city was noticeably subdued as residents discussed the ruling in low tones.

Some residents expressed dissatisfaction with the court’s decision, while others openly disagreed with the outcome, reflecting a mix of emotions following the high-profile judgment.
