The United States government has warned that involvement in corrupt practices may form the basis for being denied American visas.
The U.S. government warned that even high-profile individuals can be denied visas if caught in the corruption web.
The warning was handed down in a statement on Monday, released via the official 𝕏 account of the U.S Mission in Nigeria.
“Fighting corruption knows no borders or limits on accountability. Even when high-profile individuals engage in corruption, they can be barred from receiving U.S. Visas,” the statement read.
The advisory represents the latest in the series of installations by the American government under the leadership of President Donald Trump, who has tightened visa requirements and immigration procedures since assuming office for a second term.
Naijaonpoint recalls that recently, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) attributed the visa restrictions and denials being experienced by law-abiding Nigerians to the activities of internet fraudsters, popularly referred to as Yahoo Boys.
According to a post on Tuesday via the EFCC 𝕏 account, the Chairman of the commission, Ola Olukoyede, made the lamentation when he called on youths in the South-South region to resist the lure of internet fraud and other financial crimes, describing fraud as a deadly trap that destroys lives and future.
He gave the charge in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Monday, September 15, 2025, at an event organised by the Coalition of Nigerian Youth on Security and Safety Affairs (CONYSSA).
The EFCC boss highlighted that apart from damaging Nigeria’s reputation, internet fraud is an economic sabotage which costs the country billions of naira annually.
