Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun has declared Friday a public holiday in commemoration of the new Islamic calendar, Hijrah 1447 AH.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Regional Integration and Special Duties, Mr Mudasiru Oyedeji, on Thursday in Osogbo.
Adeleke urged Muslim faithful and others to use the Hijrah celebration to pray for peace, progress and development of the state.
He said the celebration period was a time to pray for the overall development of the state and unity at large.
According to the statement, the governor will take a customary salute on Saturday at a special march past at Fakunle Comprehensive High School in Osogbo, in celebration of the new year.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
