Right now, the future of Nokia is a bit uncertain, as the company that gained the license to manufacture its phones, HMD, has struck out on its own. Today, the company launched the HMD Pulse line of phones. This line of phones includes the HMD Pulse, HMD Pulse+, and HMD Pulse Pro.
This is only a fraction of the number of devices we’ve seen leaked from HMD. However, this gives us a good idea as to what sorts of phones to expect from this company. All of the phones are within the €100 to €200 range, with rather modest specs.
HMD launched its line of Pulse phones
In the grand scheme of things, there’s nothing about these phones that sets them apart from other mid-rangers on the market. However, they do have a trick up their sleeves.
Starting off with the HMD Pulse
This phone is rocking a 6.65-inch LCD display with a 720p+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. This display can reach a modest 600 nits of peak brightness. So, you’re likely to have to shield your phone in the sun.
Powering this device, we have the UNISOC T606. This brand isn’t well known compared to MediaTek and Qualcomm. However, it’s been able to carve out a niche for itself. Backing up the processor, we have 4GB/6GB of RAM with 64GB of onboard storage. That can be expanded to 256GB via a micro SD card.
Other specs include Android 14 out of the box, two years of major OS upgrades, three years of security patches, and IP52 water and dust resistance.
As for the battery, this phone has a large 5,000mAh battery, and it supports 10-watt charging. That’s not fast by any means, but it will ensure that the battery will last longer. HMD claims that it’s good for up to 800 charge cycles.
Moving on to the camera, the HMD Pulse has a 13-megapixel main camera. It’s accompanied by what appears to be a depth sensor. Up front, housed in the punch hole, is an 8-megapixel selfie camera.
The HMD Pulse will launch in dreamy pink and meteor black. This phone starts at €140/£100.
HMD Pulse+
This is the middle child of the trio. It also has a 6.65-inch 720p+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate. When it comes to the internals, this phone is rocking the same UNISOC T606 processor. However, there’s an 8GB option for RAM along with the 4GB and 6GB options. This phone starts off with 128GB of onboard storage, and it can be expanded up to 256GB via a micro SD card.
Much of this phone remains the Same as the smaller sibling. However, it appears that the HMD Pulse Plus will have a 50-megapixel main camera. If you’re wondering about video recording, it’ll cap out at 1080p.
We’re also sure this phone also has an 8-megapixel selfie camera.
HMD will launch this phone in Apricot Crush and Midnight Blue. It starts at €160/£130.
Lastly, the HMD Pulse Pro
This is the most capable of the devices, and it comes with the heftiest price tag of €180. However, saying that it’s the most capable phone isn’t really saying much, as it shares the same display and processor as the two other siblings.
Also, this phone has a 50-megapixel camera with a 2-megapixel depth sensor. However, the selfie camera got a jump to 50 megapixels. Just like the HMD Pulse+, this phone comes with 4GB/6GB/8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage.
One thing that will make this phone different from the other siblings is the fact that it has faster 20W charging as opposed to 10W charging. Just like the other two devices, this phone will have two OS upgrades along with three years of security updates.
HMD will release this phone in Glacier Green, Black Ocean, and Twilight Purple.
So, all in all, these three phones will share the same screen resolution, screen refresh rate, screen brightness, battery capacity, update schedule, and overall design.
There’s something special about these phones
The HMD Pulse phones will have a focus on repairability. The company says that it will bring Gen 1 repairability with these phones. You will be able to replace components quickly like the display and Battery. In fact, the company mentions a QuickFix replaceable battery. This means that you’ll easily be able to replace the battery should you need to swap it out. This can extend the longevity of your phone and reduce the need to get rid of it in lieu of another device.
These phones will not make it to the United States. However, HMD has planned a phone called the HMD Pulse Vibe. This phone May be pretty much identical to the above-mentioned phones.
