HMD, the former brand responsible for Nokia smartphones, is preparing to introduce a new premium phone. In recent years, the company has focused on low-end and mid-range devices, although without making much of a splash in the market. However, the alleged HMD Moon Knight could finally change things with some flagship specs.
HMD Moon Knight leaked specs suggest a return to the flagship phone segment
As reported by @smashx_60 on X/Twitter, HMD is working on a flagship phone under the codename “Moon Knight” or “TA-1691.” According to ..., the smartphone will rely on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset. This means that it won’t rank among the most powerful devices on the market (especially once Qualcomm announces the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4/Snapdragon 8 Elite), but it will still merit the title of flagship.
The device will feature a Full HD+ P-OLED display with a refresh rate of 144 Hz. The rear area of the phone is said to be home to a quad-camera system. It seems that HMD is looking to return to the days when Nokia devices were known for their cameras, albeit without the Nokia branding. … also mentions the presence of a POGO Pin, which suggests that it will support modular accessories like the latest HMD Fusion.
Other expected features include a pair of stereo speakers, an aluminum frame, and, of course, 5G support. The source does not offer any further details on the device’s specifications. However, smashx_60 promises to reveal more tech specs and renders “soon.”
HMD’s last mobile flagship arrived in 2019
HMD’s last attempt at the premium segment was the Nokia 9 PureView. The device arrived in early 2019, surprising the industry with a 5-sensor rear camera setup. However, the camera system didn’t work as you’d expect. The sensors didn’t offer different modes, but instead all took photos at once. Then, the phone processed all the images to deliver an improved final picture.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go well with the device. A combination of poor marketing and broken support promises led to its failure. Even Light, the company that offered its camera technology, exited the smartphone market. Hopefully, things will be different this time, and “Moon Knight” can take on the competitive Android industry. The HMD Fusion is an attractive device, but it is surely not what flagship users are looking for.
