American film director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer and producer Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, December 14, in what officials are investigating as an apparent double homicide.
The tragedy unfolded after the couple’s daughter, Romy Reiner, discovered their bodies and alerted the police.
The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to the report, and upon arrival, discovered the filmmaker and his wife were already deceased. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) joined the scene shortly after.
The deaths are being investigated as a double homicide, with initial reports indicating both victims died from an apparent stabbing.
Officials have described the incident only as a “family incident.”
The Reiner family released a statement to Variety, asking for privacy as they mourn the sudden loss.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time,” the statement read.
Rob Reiner will be widely remembered as one of Hollywood’s most versatile and acclaimed directors, responsible for a string of iconic films, including: This Is Spinal Tap (1984); Stand by Me (1986); The Princess Bride (1987); When Harry Met Sally (1989),Misery (1990); A Few Good Men (1992).
As an actor, his film credits include Sleepless in Seattle (1993), The First Wives Club (1996), and The Wolf of Wall Street (2013).
Michele Singer Reiner was a photographer and film producer. She is widely known for shooting the cover photo for Donald Trump’s best-selling business book, The Art of the Deal.
