As many of you know, Huawei, former owner of HONOR, launched the world’s very first tri-fold device recently. The phone’s name is Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design, and it managed to get a lot of attention.

That phone launched in China, but considering Huawei’s teasers via global channels, it could be on its way to more markets. That smartphone, when folded, is 12.8mm thick. That is quite an achievement as it’s slightly thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, a regular folding phone.

With that in mind, getting a tri-fold smartphone to be only 10mm thick… well, that seems like an impossible task. 12.8mm is already a huge feat of engineering. It is possible that it will happen one day, but we can’t imagine this being a ‘coming soon’ type a thing.

HONOR is the company that is leading the charge when it comes to the design of regular foldable smartphones, though. The HONOR Magic V3, which was announced recently, is the world’s thinnest and lightest book-style foldable.

If someone can get a tri-fold smartphone to be thinner than the one Huawei offers, it’s HONOR. Getting to 10mm of thickness, well, that could be a huge challenge. The HONOR Magic V3 is 9.2mm thick, and that is an unbelievable achievement. Do remember that’s a regular foldable, though.

Many people are in awe of Huawei for launching the Huawei Mate XT, but some are worried about the weight. The device weighs 298 grams, which is hefty, but that is a tri-fold after all. We were afraid it would be even thicker.

If HONOR manages to not only shave off some thickness of its tri-fold, but also drop some weight, that would be great. It remains to be seen. HONOR will launch a tri-fold sooner or later, it only remains to be seen what exactly will we get.
