A new HONOR patent has been spotted, and it seems to indicate that the company is working on its own rollable smartphone. The patent surfaced at CNIPA, and it shows a rollable or sliding display, whichever you want to put it.

HONOR seems to be working hard to deliver its very own rollable smartphone

This display seems to include two screen parts, one of them stays fixed, while the other one slides to the side. They are connected and anchored by elastic beams, based on the provided patent.

This patent is marked as ‘CN 118582642 A’, and it has been improved by CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration). Well, at least based on the information provided by IT Home.

91mobiles notes that the patent mostly focuses on the support structure which enables sliding actions. That is to a rollable phone what a hinge is to a foldable smartphone, it’s immensely important.

HONOR’s foldable is one of the best in the market at the moment

HONOR has made some real strides with foldable smartphones. The company currently has the thinnest and lightest book-style foldable in the market, the HONOR Magic V3, and an outstanding hinge is a part of the equation.

Can HONOR work its magic with a rollable smartphone too? Well, that’s something we’ll have to wait and see. Not a single company released a rollable smartphone to the market.

OPPO did show off its rollable smartphone, but that was just a working concept. It was shown off way back in 2020. LG was getting ready to release such a phone before the company gave up on smartphones altogether.

Not a single company since then attempted it. Many would argue that there’s no need for them, though, considering how thin and light foldable smartphones are these days. Still, companies don’t seem to be giving up on rollables just yet.
