The political landscape in Kebbi State shifted significantly this week as Governor Nasir Idris rewarded a high-profile defector from the Malami family with a key government position.
On Tuesday, an official letter signed by the Head of Service, Malami Shekare, confirmed the appointment of Almustapha Malami as the new General Manager of the Kebbi State Geographic Information System (KEBGIS).
In the letter, the Head of Service congratulated the appointee on his new role and urged him to demonstrate total commitment, diligence, and dedication in the discharge of his duties, in line with the policies and objectives of the Kebbi State Government.
“The government expects you to bring your wealth of experience to bear in ensuring effective management of the state’s geographic information system for improved land administration and service delivery,” the letter stated.
According to the letter, the appointment takes immediate effect.
Almustapha’s appointment comes just one day after he formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) and praised Governor Idris for his “tremendous achievements” in urban development.
The move is particularly notable due to the political rift within the Malami family.
Abubakar Malami, the immediate past Attorney-General recently, dumped the APC for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to nurse his own 2027 governorship ambition. He has been a vocal critic of Governor Idris’ administration and is currently being detained by the EFCC.
Almustapha, Abubakar’s younger brother, backed the Governor’s re-election, breaking ranks with his brother’s political movement.
