The Police is investigating the death of a family of six, husband, wife and their four children, who reportedly died after inhaling generator fumes in Ogale, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.
According to preliminary findings, the generator is believed to have run all through Saturday night into Sunday morning before neighbours noticed something was wrong and raised the alarm.
A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity said the victims were preparing to travel back to Port Harcourt after the holidays when the tragedy occurred.
The source explained, “They were found dead in various positions. It is a very unfortunate incident and we are calling on the police to do a proper investigation.”
The event was first brought to public attention by a Facebook user, Destiny John, who shared the news online, writing, “A black Sunday indeed six died on the spot.”

When reached for comment, Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the development.
Iringe-Koko stated, “Yes I can confirm the incident.
“From information I got the generator was inside the living room because they were afraid it would be stolen.
“Investigation is ongoing.”
