How I became Queen Mother of Uke kingdom – Actress Sotayo Gaga

Nollywood actress Tayo Sobola, popularly known as Sotayo Gaga, in a recent interview  discussed her unexpected ascension as the “Saruauniya” (Queen Mother) of the Uke kingdom in Nassarawa State.

The story of Sobola’s royal appointment is one of serendipitous fate.  She recounted how a seemingly simple charity donation led her to the Uke kingdom.

Initially hesitant, she agreed to accompany a representative. Upon entering the palace, she unknowingly sat on the throne reserved for the late Queen Mother, a seat local lore dictated would be occupied by the next queen.  “The king had to tell me that the seat I went to sit on… was for their kingdom’s Queen mother, and it had been said that their next queen mother would walk in at the appointed time, and all the signs they were given, I came in with it,” Sobola explained.  Despite her initial shock and apprehension, she was crowned the “Saruauniya,” a position second only to the Emir.  “I would say it’s just been ordained that I will become their ‘Saruauniya’,” she reflected.

Sobola’s transition into her royal role seems natural, given her long-held affinity for regal aesthetics.  “You already know me, I have always loved to represent royalty, and all these aren’t just now. It’s just that it’s more celebrated than before,” she stated.

Two years ago, Sobola announced her return to the movie industry, but her presence has been notably absent.  She clarified the delay, attributing it to motherhood.  “Honestly, I am back back. I am very ready for my movies and other people’s movies too. The thing is, I thought I was back early last year, but pregnancy humbled me, and I obeyed, and now I am just 4 months old as a mother, so I am ready.”

Motherhood, she revealed, has brought a new sensitivity.  While she asserts that her core personality remains unchanged, she admits to a heightened awareness, particularly concerning children.  “Just one thing that I noticed about me is that I think I am softer now; there were some posts I wouldn’t give a deeper look at before, but now that I am a mother, I pay attention to posts related to minors.”
