“How I offended Tope Alabi and her husband on their wedding day” – Actor Olaiya Igwe spills on his biggest regret

Veteran actor Olaiya Igwe has expressed regret at disappointing gospel singer Tope Alabi and her husband, Soji Alabi.

In a recent interview with Baba Ibe TV, while speaking on his biggest regret, Olaiya recounted how he disappointed the gospel singer and her husband on their wedding day.

Olaiya said he had promised to lend his newly purchased Mercedes-Benz V-Boot to Tope Alabi on their wedding day, but because of the fear of losing his car, he aborted the mission. According to him, he backed out due to security reasons, as he had experienced a robbery incident in Ibadan. He claimed that after he bought the car, it was stolen and later recovered, which made him paranøid. As such, he was scared to lend the car to the gospel singer.

The veteran Yoruba actor added that though he sought her forgiveness, he still deals with the guilt of disappointing her, especially after the tables turn on him. Olaiya noted that Tope has several cars, while he now struggles to afford one.

“What hurt me most and still hurts me is what I did to my younger sister, singer Tope Alabi. She informed me about her wedding, and I had just bought a car, ‘V boot’, at that time. It was when I did ‘Olalade Mr Money’ movie,” he said.

Before I collected the plate number, I had inscribed Ololade Mr Money 1 on the car. So, I went to Ibadan in Oyo State to show one of my films, and my car was stolen from me by robbers.

“But it was later recovered the following day after the news circulated on radio stations and other platforms. When I returned from Ibadan, Tope Alabi came to my house in Abeokuta and said, “Big brother, please, we want to use your car for our wedding. “I said no problem.

“But after she left, I had a second thought: what if armed robbers snatched the car from them? I stopped picking up her calls a day before the wedding. I didn’t give her the car. I disappointed Tope Alabi.

“But she now has countless luxury cars, some of which I cannot afford. So, up till today, I’m still in pain that I offended Tope Alabi. I once sought her forgiveness during one of our professional meetings in Ogun State. My greatest regret is disappointing Tope Alabi”.

Early last year, actor Yemi My Lover opened up about his strained relationship with Tope Alabi. He recounted how Tope went the extra mile to get to him and how her mother entrusted her in his care. Unfortunately, their relationship has been a little strained.
