Veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu has opened up about her experience with domestic violence.
In an emotional interview with her colleague, Ayo Adesanya, on “Real Life With Aunty Ayo,” she recalled how she walked away the day before her wedding. Ngozi said, despite all the begging from her husband and family members, she didn’t agree and refused to sign the registrar.
Ngozi recalled a moment when her husband dragged her by her hair, and blood came out. She said she didn’t know where she got the strength from and hit back. According to her, she was ready to kill her husband and go to jail that day.
Advising ladies, the veteran said that marriage isn’t a do-or-die affair and one should never give a second chance to any man who beats them. She explained that if a lady takes it once, she will take it for the rest of her life.
“I don’t believe marriage is a do-or-die affair. When the domestic violence is too much, you’ve got to move. If you take it once, get ready, you must be ready to take it for the rest of your life.
My husband is this kind of violent person. I went to the kitchen to boil water, and he broke the kitchen door. I will never forget that day till I die. I plaited Bob Marley, he drew me, and one strand of the attachment came out with blood.
I didn’t know where I got the strength from, but I picked up a pestle. I was ready to kill him that day and go to jail. My neighbours saw me naked.
When I saw the domestic violence coming from his side, I walked away a day before our marriage and refused to sign the registrar.

In a past interview, Ngozi had kicked against infidelity being a deal breaker in marriages. She stated that infidelity shouldn’t be a reason a woman lets go of her man. For her, the deal breaker in any marriage should be when their spouse physically assaults them.
Similarly, veteran actress, Iya Awero, while speaking on her crashed marriage, recalled how her husband supported her acting career while they were dating, but changed immediately they got married. She said her husband became violent and physically assault her whenever she went on a movie set. The veteran said she didn’t enjoy her marriage for long, as death came knocking on her husband’s door.
Light-skinned actress, Rose Odika, while opening up on her crashed marriage, said there is no need for toxic marriage and if it isn’t worth it, it isn’t worth one’s life. She added that a man who meets a woman as an actor, should marry her as an actor and if he can’t, he should go.
Actress, Motilola, shed light on why she announced her divorce from her husband. She recalled how a blogger threatened to expose, and as one who can’t be blackmailed, she beat the blogger to it. The mother of two, slammed those who shame women over their crashed marriage as she noted how no woman, goes into a marriage, with the intention of leaving.
