How Kehinde Bankole stays off controversies

This renowned actress spoke candidly about her career, her approach to choosing roles, and the ever-evolving Nollywood landscape.

Unlike some of her peers, Bankole has managed to navigate the industry without succumbing to scandal. Her secret? Simplicity. “Keeping things simple keeps you away from trouble. When your life isn’t complicated, the things that come back to you are straightforward too,” she revealed in a recent interview.

While the rise of female actors venturing into directing and production is a growing trend, Bankole remains firmly rooted in her passion. “I’m an actor,” she emphasizes. However, she’s open to exploring storytelling in other forms. “If the opportunity arose to produce something, maybe a documentary, I wouldn’t be opposed to it,” she reveals. “There are many ways to be involved in storytelling, and I’m open to them.”

For Bankole, choosing a role is about more than just a good script.  “The direction of the story is crucial,” she states. “Some stories are clear in their message, but others leave you wondering where they’re going. I need a script with a strong narrative, a clear message, and a theme that resonates.”  She emphasizes the importance of being a bridge between the writer and the audience. “The emotions I experience the first time I read a script are what the viewers will feel too,” she explains.
