A senior lecturer at Kogi State University, Anyigba, Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, has been confirmed dead after collapsing during sexual intercourse with a 22-year-old female student in a hotel room.

Naijaonpoint gathered that the incident happened on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, and was reported to the Anyigba Police Division the following day.

The lecturer, who taught in the university’s Faculty of Education, reportedly checked into a hotel with the student, identified as Gloria Samuel, a 200-level Social Studies Education student.

According to reports gathered, he collapsed during their time together in the room after allegedly taking several energy drinks.

Following the incident, the hotel manager raised an alarm after the student rushed to the reception for help.

The police were quickly informed and arrived at the hotel to transport the lecturer to a hospital, where he was later confirmed dead by a doctor on duty.

The Kogi State Police Command has taken over the case.

The student was arrested and later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further questioning.

Police said an autopsy has been carried out, although the result has not been made public.

“So the girl in question has been transferred from Anyigba Police Division to the State CID for further investigation and prosecution. An autopsy has been conducted, but right now I don’t know whether the result of the autopsy is out because I haven’t spoken with the SCID”, the Command’s spokesperson, SP William Ovye Aya, said, according to Sahara Reporters.

Dr. Ibikunle was married with children and was known on campus for being very strict.
