The world of KPop Demon Hunters is crossing beyond the animation. Earlier this year, Arden Cho and Cha Eun-woo brought one of the film’s most beloved songs to life, as they did a special performance of FREE, and now, the Rumi actress is opening up about how it all came about.

While speaking with Liam Crowley on the upcoming episode of ScreenRant‘s Coffee Chats series, Cho was asked how this happened to begin with. Cho said, “That was really fun, too, because when the movie first came out, maybe a week after or so, a lot of my friends in Korea were [praising it].”

She added how “Eunwoo in particular was like, “Dude, I saw your movie. It’s so fun.” I was planning a trip to Korea anyways, and I had a couple of dance challenges prepared with K-pop idol groups. So, Eunwoo was like, “Let’s do a cover.” And I was like, “Oh, my God, I would be honored.” But Eunwoo’s huge. “Are you sure you want to do a cover with me?”

However, she elaborated how she “was a bit embarrassed, but I think it was really nice to feel the support and feel the love for it.” In the end, Cho was “so thankful because he and his team just put it all together, and it was the last cover he did before going to the army.”

Cho felt “really thankful that he made time to do it, because it was in the midst of multiple music videos, fan meetings, and other things that he had in his schedule.” Their FREE cover was “filmed or recorded it not too long after the movie came out, and then we held onto it to release it right before he left for the army.

The Teen Wolf alum commented that “it was kind of the last little gift for the fans. I think it’s been so fun, and I’m so thankful to him and his team.”

She loves how they “are getting that stamp of approval from all these idols being like, “We love the movie!” Cho also explained how “I think that’s always a big fear when you have anything that is showing a job. Like, for medical shows, doctors are never happy. Legal shows, lawyers are never happy. Cop shows, same thing, right? Everyone’s always like, “They didn’t get it right.” But for some reason, I feel like a lot of the idols seem to like KPop Demon Hunters.”

May Hong, who plays Mira in the KPop Demon Hunters cast, chimed in with, “All the idols are like, “Oh, my God, their apartment is banging.” Cho concluded with stating how she “feel like we have to give credit to our directors and the animators and the artists for really capturing the beauty of that world. Elevating it and everything, from the fandom, the light sticks, the mannerism, all of it. The tattoos, so good. Even how they switch from Saja Boys back to HUNTR/X!”

The story for HUNTR/X is far from over, as KPop Demon Hunters 2 is confirmed to be moving forward. While production on the sequel has yet to begin, the world can continue to relive KPop Demon Hunters on Netflix.
