Huawei announced its new flagship series of Android phones not long ago, the Pura 70 series. It was first announced in China, and then globally too. The Huawei Pura 70 Ultra is the most powerful smartphone in the series, and it’s now a top camera phone over at DXOMARK.

The HONOR Magic6 Pro held that spot until now and was followed by the Huawei Mate 60 Pro+ and OPPO Find X7 Ultra. The Huawei Pura 70 Ultra took the top spot with 163 points, overall, 5 more than the second-placed device.
Considering that the difference between the second-placed and the ninth-placed devices is 5 points, this is a big deal. DXOMARK had a lot of nice things to say about this phone’s camera during its test.
The phone got awarded 169 points in the photo department, and 148 in the video department. It excelled in exposure, color, autofocus, noise, bokeh, tele, and wide categories when it comes to photos.
DXOMARK had a lot of positives to say about this camera setup and performance
The phone’s camera also got top scores in Outdoor, Indoor, Lowlight, and Friends & Family categories. Let’s quickly go over the pros and cons that DXOMARK highlighted during its test. There are always positives and negatives, of course.
DXOMARK says that the phone provided “Nicely balanced exposure and contrast across all light conditions”. The company also praised the rendering when viewed on HDR displays. The colors were also praised.
The Huawei Pura 70 Ultra also has a very fast and accurate autofocus and good video stabilization. Variable aperture’s role was also highlighted, as was good texture/noise trade-off across most conditions and in all zoom settings.
DXOMARK says that the phone offers “Natural blur in bokeh mode, smooth gradient, and accurate subject isolation”. The 3.5x tele macro shots at f/2.1 offer a nice perspective, and good sharpness too.
There are some negatives too, though
What about the negatives? DXOMARK says that there’s some noise in the video content, and ghosting in shots with moving subjects, even in bright light. Occasional color quantization was also mentioned, especially in low-light situations.
Occasional unnatural textures in low light and night shots were highlighted, and the same goes for some unnatural rendering in tele zoom shots. That’s it.
The Huawei Pura 70 Ultra now has 163 points in the camera department, and it’s followed by the HONOR Magic6 Pro with 158 points. The Huawei Mate 60 Pro+ and OPPO Find X7 Ultra won 157 points, while the Huawei P60 Pro has 156 points. The Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro claimed 6th and 7th place with 154 points, while the Google Pixel 8 Pro and OPPO Find X6 Pro took 8th and 9th place with 153 points. The HONOR Magic5 Pro rounds up the top 10 list with 152 points.
