Huawei requests dismissal of 'theft and fraud' charges

Huawei has requested dismissal of theft and fraud charges from the US court. The company alleges that these charges are a part of a “baseless initiative” to target Chinese companies with the goal of preventing their progress.

As many of you know, the US started this story way back in 2019. The situation has been getting worse since then, though. Various bans and roadblocks issued have prevented Huawei to not only use Google services, but also technology made using US tech.

Over the years, that forced Huawei to figure out alternatives and has slowed down the company’s progress. Huawei was at the very top of the smartphone market globally. It was right in line with Samsung and Apple, before this happened.

Many argue that Huawei would claim the number one spot and only continue to progress, if not for the US ban. The US cited national security concerns initially, and things only got worse from that point on.

Huawei always claimed to be innocent. It claimed that the US does not have any proof of tech secrets being stolen, as that never happened. “The government has approached Huawei as a prosecutorial target in search of a crime”, said Huawei.

The trial date is set for January 5, 2026

The company also added that most of the theft allegations relate to “outside the US” activities. The US vs Huawei case has received a trial date of January 5, 2026.

Huawei’s founder recently said that even though the US ban hurt the company, it forced it to build its own technology. In some ways, that benefited Huawei, as it made the company more self-sustaining. Huawei was forced to innovate.

Things would be a lot easier for Huawei if the US ban was lifted, though, needless to say. Jumping through hoops like this has definitely not been fun for Huawei, as there are still no perfect solutions for some problems.
