Hunger Games: Sunrise On the Reaping Fan Casting Winner Revealed

The winner of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping fan casting competition has been revealed. The latest Hunger Games book was released in March. This was soon followed by many high-profile casting announcements for the movie adaptation, which is now in production, and will come to theaters on November 20, 2026.

In May, the fan casting competition was announced, giving one fan the opportunity to join Sunrise on the Reaping‘s cast after submitting a video demonstrating why they should be cast as an extra or in a specific role.

Now, the winner has been revealed as Devon Singletary. He will play Blair, who is a close friend to Haymitch Abernathy and Katniss Everdeen’s father, Burdock, in District 12. The announcement begins in the same style as the other casting videos, highlighting a page of the novel and the name of the character being cast before the page burns away and shows the actor selected for the role.

This time, the casting reveal also includes a wall of the submission videos before zooming in on Singletary’s entry. He then introduces himself, which is followed by footage of learning that he has won the competition, and is later joined by cast members Joseph Zada, Mckenna Grace, and Whitney Peak congratulating him.

Zada, who plays Haymitch, enthusiastically informs Singletary that he has been cast as Blair. The video concludes with Singletary enjoying his first day on set. Check out the video below:

With the expectation being that the competition winner would be playing an extra, it is a surprising and exciting development to see Singletary play a named character who has an important connection to Haymitch and Katniss’ father. He will have dialogue and get to share the screen with Zada and Scott Greenan, who plays Burdock.

Singletary joins a star-studded cast that also includes Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee Latier, Maya Hawke as Wiress, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Ben Wang as Wyatt Callow, Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle, and Billy Porter as Magno Stift.

Francis Lawrence, who has directed every Hunger Games movie except for the first, returns to helm Sunrise on the Reaping. He will direct Singletary in some of the film’s earliest scenes, which show what Haymitch’s life is like in District 12 before he is reaped for the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the second Quarter Quell.
