Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has threatened legal action against rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, over alleged defamatory statements.

Naijaonpoint understands that Obi’s legal representatives, Ejesimen & Co (Madiba Chambers, SAN), issued a notice accusing Adeyanju of persistently making derogatory remarks against the ex-governor on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) and other social media platforms.

The notice particularly referenced a post dated August 21, in which Adeyanju alleged that Obi diverted funds from the Anambra State treasury into his family business.

In the same post, Adeyanju also claimed to have met Obi, alleging that the former governor attempted to give him money disguised as a token of appreciation.

Obi’s legal team described the statements as “false, malicious and defamatory,” demanding a public retraction and an unreserved apology from Adeyanju.

‘I Can’t Wait to Meet Him in Court’ – Adeyanju Reacts

Reacting to the threat of legal action, Adeyanju took to his official X handle on Wednesday night, dismissing Obi’s notice and daring him to proceed with the lawsuit.

“Just got this letter from Peter Obi the religious bigot demanding a retraction from me. I laughed so hard. I can’t wait to meet him in court finally. A fraud parading himself as a messiah.

“This same guy called the great Sowore a blackmailer-in-chief. We served his little errand girl Serah a letter to retract all her defamatory publications on Monday against my wife & she ran to the leader of the mob for help. Can’t wait to meet him in court.

“Serah Ibrahim will soon have her day in court. Obi cannot save her and I am ready for him in court 100%. Super happy he sent that letter. It proves what we have always suspected; he is the one sending them to defame people online because they are his aides,” Adeyanju wrote.

Naijaonpoint reports that Adeyanju has been a vocal critic of the former governor, repeatedly insisting that Obi stands little chance of becoming Nigeria’s president.

He has also frequently clashed with Obi’s supporters, popularly known as the Obidients, over his social media posts.

In one of his recent Facebook posts, Adeyanju declared that it was “too late” for Obi to ever emerge as Nigeria’s leader.
