Social media critic, Martins Otse, aka VeryDarkMan, has tendered a public apology to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for wearing its uniform.
NaijaOnPoint.com.ng (NOP) reports that social media personality a few days ago caused a buzz on social media with a new video in which he introduced himself as the Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) online division.
VDM who was spotted in an outfit similar to the Nigerian Police uniform, warned people against referring to him as an activist.
Addressing himself as CSP, the social media sensation disclosed that he is dedicated to sanitising the social media space, speaking against injustice in the country and coming for online vendors.
In reaction to the footage, the police disclosed that its has launched an investigation to determine the source of the police gear used and the authority under which the activist acted.
In a follow-up Instagram video, VeryDarkMan disclosed that he was invited to the police station where he was interrogated based on the video.
The activist stressed that he didn’t intend to impersonate the police, after which offered his “unreserved apologies” to the law enforcement agency.
Advising the public, VDM urged the public to seek permission from law enforcement agencies before using “attire resembling their uniforms”.
He wrote, “Back from the police station where I was interrogated based on ... I made wearing a costume that the police claim is similar to theirs.
“I didn’t intend to impersonate the police in anyway and I tender my unreserved apologies to the Nigeria police force and the office of the inspector general of police…
“I will like to use the medium to tell the general public to always seek permission from the police or other law enforcement agencies before using anything that might look like their uniform.
“You might want to use it for good but there are others that might want to use it for bad, so it’s good to get full approval before using anything that might seem impersonating👍 @nigeriapoliceforce and also shout out to my lawyer @adeyanjudeji who is always ready to stand.”
