El-Rufai made this statement while responding to an X user who commended him for his book, “Accidental Public Servant”. The user praised El-Rufai, saying that only a politician genuinely interested in developing the country would have him in their cabinet, as he “doesn’t know how to pretend”. El-Rufai appreciated the kind words, saying that being a “Nollywood actor” in governance is not his style, but rather suited for some other politicians. This statement comes after El-Rufai’s recent criticism of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), for abandoning its founding principles and fostering poor leadership. El-Rufai’s criticism sparked a response from Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, who questioned whether El-Rufai would have expressed the same views if he were a cabinet member in Tinubu’s government. El-Rufai responded, stating that he had informed Tinubu that he was not interested in any position in his future government, and that his public service record from 1998 speaks for itself.
