Speaking at the Memorial Lecture of Chief Gani Fawehinmi in Lagos yesterf, Sanusi expressed his dissatisfaction with the government’s approach to economic governance. As a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi’s expertise would be valuable in navigating the country’s economic challenges. However, he has chosen not to aid the government, citing their lack of credible individuals who can effectively explain their policies. Sanusi attributed the country’s current economic state to “decades of irresponsible economic management.” He emphasised that warnings were given decades ago, but they were ignored. The Emir also called for a return to the foundational values of integrity, highlighting the lessons from the life of Chief Gani Fawehinmi. It’s worth noting that Sanusi’s return to the throne in Kano is being challenged in court, and there have been claims that the Federal Government favours his opponent, Aminu Ado Bayero. Sanusi’s decision not to support the government may be seen as a response to these developments.
