The Commissioner of Police (CP) in Kogi, Mr Miller Dantawaye, has said that the current reforms of the Inspector-General of Police (I-G) have been impactful and commendable.
The CP, who made the remark on Monday when he engaged with the leadership of retired police officers at the Command’s Headquarters, Lokoja.
He lauded the reforms relating to the welfare of both serving and retired officers.
Dantawaye stressed that the IG’s unwavering commitment in improving the welfare of both serving and retired officers has gone a long way in transforming their lives.
“The remarkable thing is that he has completed the payment of all outstanding claims for officers, who died in active service.
“He is also concerned about the general complaint on the pension for police officers and has been engaging at the highest level to ensure that police officers are happy in retirement.”
The CP, however, urged the retired officers to use the formal channels to air their grievances, rather than resorting to public platforms.
Earlier, the leaders of the delegation, CSP Abdullahi Ibrahim (Rtd) and ASP Shaibu Oke (Rtd), expressed their profound gratitude for the warm reception and rare opportunity to interact directly with the CP.
They described the meeting as historic, noting that Dantawaye was the first commissioner of police in the state to grant them such audience — a privilege they would not take for granted.
The delegation appealed for the establishment of a Police Pension Board to bring all retirees under one umbrella.
They also requested for the full payment of gratuity to retirees under the contributory pension scheme to be removed from the scheme. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
