“I have a very good feeling” – Cyriel Dessers opens up on striking partnership with Rangers teammate Ingamane

Super Eagles and Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers has revealed he has “a very good feeling” about his budding striking partnership with club teammate Hamza Igamane, Soccernet.football reports.

Despite beginning the 2024/2025 season as Rangers’ first-choice centre forward, a poor run of form saw Dessers lose his place in the starting XI to Igamane. The young Moroccan seized his opportunity with both hands, notching an impressive ten goal tally in as many starts to effectively consign his Nigerian counterpart to the bench.

At the turn of the year however, Dessers enjoyed an impressive return to form for the Light Blues. The Nigeria international scored in back to back substitute appearances against Aberdeen and Manchester United in the Scottish Premiership and UEFA Europa League respectively.

With Dessers’ return to form, Rangers’ manager Philippe Clement has opted to play the Nigerian striker alongside his Moroccan teammate over the last three games. Dessers has registered 18 goals and 6 assists in 37 games across all competitions for Rangers so far, while Igamane has recorded 13 goals and contributed three assists in 29 games for the Light Blues.

The Belgium-born hitman shared his thoughts about the budding partnership in a chat with the club’s official website.

“My partnership with Hamza? I hope that is something that continues, the last three games we have been playing together, I have a very good feeling about this.

“The Scottish league is a very tough league for a striker, you get a lot kicks, knocks, punches and all of these things.

“A lot of times I am fighting against three centre-backs. With Hamza next to me or me next to him, I think that causes some distraction there and we can use each other, create space for each other, make them hesitate a little bit more and take the profit out of that.

“For me it was nice to play with him, obviously Hamza is a very good player and I hope this partnership can grow. I think this was a nice start but there is still a lot of growth left in this partnership for our connection.

“These were also the first few games that we played together because normally we get subbed on or off for each other. I am looking forward to that and hopefully we can develop that together.”
