Former Senate President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Adolphus Wabara, has denied rumours claiming he had defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Wabara described the reports, which surfaced on social media, as “planted, fake, and mischievous,” urging party members and the public to disregard them.
“The same disgruntled elements who have been contracted to destroy the PDP are behind this mischievous media campaign. But no amount of lies can change the fact that I am still very much in the PDP,” he said.
The PDP BoT Chairman was reacting to reports suggesting he was among South East leaders who allegedly received ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo in Enugu on December 31, during an event where Obasanjo was said to have endorsed Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for the 2027 race.
Dismissing the claims, Wabara clarified that the photograph being circulated on social media was from a previous visit to Obasanjo’s residence in Abeokuta and had no connection to the purported Enugu gathering.
“That photo was taken last year when some Igbo leaders visited Obasanjo in his Abeokuta home. The portrait on the wall in the background clearly shows that the picture was not taken in Enugu,” he explained.
Wabara reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP and its revival ahead of the 2027 elections.
“I’m not only in the PDP but committed to seeing that the PDP bounces back as the ruling national party in 2027,” he said.
He vowed that no amount of blackmail or propaganda would deter him from advocating for due process and the rule of law within the party.
“No amount of blackmail would stop me from insisting on the rule of law and due process to revive the PDP as a formidable political party in the country,” he added.
