“I hope to win more”- Eric Chelle targets more trophies with Super Eagles after Unity Cup success

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has revealed that he is looking to win more trophies for Nigeria after their success in the Unity Cup on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles beat Jamaica 5-4 on penalties after playing out a 2-2 draw in normal time to claim the Unity Cup title.

It was not the best of performances from the Super Eagles, but there were some positives to be taken from Chelle’s tactical approach and the performance of some of the players like Samuel Chukwueze, Christantus Uche, Benjamin Fredrick, and Felix Agu.

Although Unity Cup is not a big trophy, Superthe After the game, Chelle appeared elated at winning the tournament with Nigeria.

Moving forward, he noted that he is hoping to achieve more success with the Super Eagles during his time as coach

“In reality, this is my first trophy as a coach,” Chelle said, per Oga Nla Media.

“When I was a player, I won trophies, but this is my first as a coach. I hope with this trophy, I can bring more trophies for Nigeria.”

Now that the Unity Cup is over, Chelle’s next focus will be the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers which continue in September and the Africa Cup of Nations in December, if he is still in charge of the team.

Although most of the players who the Franco-Malian used are not regulars for the Super Eagles, some of them have shown promise. Hence, Chelle should be looking at working on his main starting eleven moving forward.

The next set of World Cup Qualifers will be crucial to his future as Super Eagles coach, and he has to deliver if he wants to save his head.
