Former Enugu State Governor and senator, Chimaroke Nnamani, has denied issuing any apology to former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over past criticisms.
On Friday, a statement had circulated online claiming that the former Enugu East lawmaker expressed regret for scathing remarks he had previously made against Obi.
However, in a swift rebuttal on Saturday, Nnamani, through a statement issued by his media office, dismissed the report as fabricated, saying it was a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.
“This claim is entirely false, misleading, and a deliberate act of misinformation.
“At no time, in any forum, public or private, did Senator Chimaroke Nnamani make such an apology or utter the words being attributed to him,” Nnamani said.
He further described the statement as “a complete fabrication, clearly designed to mislead the public and advance a political narrative that exists only in the imagination of its peddlers.”
The former senator said he remained firm in his convictions and would not engage in political revisionism or apologise for exercising his constitutional right to free speech.
“Senator Nnamani has always spoken forthrightly and stands firmly by his political views and past statements. He does not engage in political revisionism, nor does he apologise for exercising his right to free expression within the bounds of democratic discourse,” the statement read.
Nnamani urged the public to disregard the report and warned those behind the statement to stop peddling falsehoods in his name.
“The public is therefore urged to disregard this falsehood in its entirety. Those behind this concocted story should desist from dragging Senator Nnamani’s name into cheap propaganda and outright falsehoods,” he added.
He said he remained focused on national issues and would not be distracted by manufactured controversies.
