Nigerian media personality Toke Makinwa has hopped on the trending 2016 throwback challenge.

The “2026 is the new 2016” trend features nostalgic items that have taken over people’s social media feeds, with throwback photos taking centre stage. From celebrities to friends, social media users have been describing 2026 as the new 2016 with their posts.
Sharing photos from her 2016 era, Toke said she wouldn’t have believed the ride ahead and how good things would become.
She described her new life as a dream and a rebellious heart full of faith. Toke expressed how glad she is to have inspired so many women to step out of the box, build their own box, and write their own story.

While reflecting on 2025, the media personality said she told God she wanted to end the year by saying, ‘What a difference a year can make,’ and God did. She revealed how God kept her reputation on the line to save her from wrong choices and, in his time, made it all beautiful. She also noted how He gave her a beautiful daughter to Shepherd.
Last year, was undoubtedly the best year for the former OAP as she welcomed her first child, a baby girl, named Yakira Eliana at 40.
On Sunday, November 2nd, the media personality dedicated Yaya, to God. The event had lots of public figures in attendance. The likes of billionaire wife Shade Okoya, Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and wife, Mercy Eke, Ruth Kadiri, Mercy Aigbe, Eniola Badmus, Uche Montana, Brodashaggi, and more were at the event.
On her TikTok page, the proud mother shared a clip from the dedication, declaring it a day she’ll cherish forever.
In a note to her daughter, Toke noted how her daughter had changed her status and healed the broken heart she had carried since she was 8. Toke said she was already drowning in her big ol’ eyes and learning so much of her.
On her podcast, the former OAP broke down in tears as she reflected on her trials, revealing that she prayed to God that she wanted to turn 40 being a mum. She said that God answered her prayers as she got pregnant the next month after her 40th birthday.
Recall that, Toke was once married to fitness expert, Maje Ayinde but the marriage crashed in 2016, after two years on the grounds of adultery.
Opening up on her failed marriage, she noted how she was blamed for her marriage failure even though her ex-husband fathered a child with another woman. She said people had different versions of what they thought her marriage was, which left her traumatized as she was the victim.
The media personality, had addressed a wrong narrative about her regarding men and marriage. The divorcee noted how people think she hates men or is a man basher, which is wrong, as she loves marriage and being married. Toke stated that she greatly advocates marriage because 2 is better than 1.
