WATCH THE VIDEO HERE Former Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has admitted that accepting the role of vice-presidential candidate alongside Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 election was a mistake that went against the sentiments of his people. “Even during the campaign, I could feel that our people didn’t support that direction,” he said. “But the party had already made its decision, and I had been nominated. Looking back now, I believe I should have aligned with the will of my people.” He tied the PDP’s poor showing in Delta during the presidential election to that disconnect and emphasized that, despite his loyalty to the party, there was strong southern interest in producing the next president.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, Okowa said he had deeply reflected on the political implications of his decision, acknowledging that many in Delta State were opposed to another northerner succeeding President Muhammadu Buhari.
