WATCH THE VIDEO HERE Nollywood actress and media personality Bimbo Akintola has spoken out on how some of her colleagues make more money than others. In a recent interview, she said she always queries her colleagues about their lavish lifestyle as she isn’t rich. According to her, she said people walk up to her, noting how some of her colleagues are richer, and she makes them know that she isn’t as financially buoyant as they are. Bimbo noted how some of them sleep with or date politicians to fund their lifestyles, while some come from a rich family. “Some of the lifestyles we see on social media can be real, and if it’s real, where does it come from? People come up to me and say, look at those actresses. They are very rich, and I tell them that I am now rich. I still ask them what they do because we know how much they sell films. From a lot of actresses I see, I don’t know if it’s from their rich homes or if there are other businesses they’re doing. We have heard about actresses dating politicians and all of that, and we know things like that truly happen”. A few months back, Yoruba actor, Funsho Adeolu had queried the source of income of his female colleagues in the industry. He revealed that he charges more money per movie than most Nollywood actresses, yet they ride bigger cars than he does. He stated that such actresses can’t say they make much money from acting to fund their lavish lifestyles, as he noted how some of these actresses only come on set so they can pretend that the industry is what funds their lifestyle. Compose Message Two years back, comedian, Ali Baba attacked actresses over their means of livelihood aside from acting, asking them how many movies they have acted for them to afford a millionaire house. To buttress his point, the comedian who said he was tempted to mention names cited an example of an actress he met in Dubai who was sponsored to lounge in Dubai and later came online to make it seem like she paid for the hotel expenses. Similarly, Kunle Remi while appearing on the ‘Honest Bunch’ podcast, mentioned that there are sometimes he drives to a movie location and his female colleagues will pull up in more expensive car, which leaves him surprise because he has an idea of how much actresses are paid. Kunle Remi mentioned that actresses are fond of saying they have multiple streams of income when queried about their lifestyle. Joining them, Angela Okorie admonished her female colleagues to stop pretending that acting alone is behind their lavish lifestyle. In an interview with Factory 78, Angela stated that many of her colleagues have other side hustles to fund their lifestyle, as she noted how upcoming actresses, who have barely lasted a year in the industry, flaunt mansions and credit the industry for their expensive possessions.
