The Conference of United Political Parties (CUPP) National Secretary, Peter Ameh, has berated the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara, for showing a lack of interest in returning to office.

Naijaonpoint recalls that President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State following the political crisis between Fubara, the House of Assembly members, and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Tinubu also suspended Fubara, his deputy, and the State House of Assembly for a period of six months and appointed a Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas.

Speaking with journalists after casting his vote on Saturday during the local government election in Rivers State, Wike said the coast is clear for the state of emergency to be lifted.

The Minister maintained that with the expiration of the state of emergency, the Rivers State Assembly is expected to resume its duties.

Reacting to the development during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme, Ameh asserted that Fubara was beaten to surrender, and it was not good for democracy.

He said, “If we are trying to do something, we should do it in a way that posterity will judge us right. I am disappointed in Fubara that he has shown that what he wants is to get back to the office.

“I think he was beaten to surrender, and that is not good for our democracy, because all instrumentalities of the state were deployed against him, and he surrendered, and it is not good. Some of us spoke against it. I have never met him or spoken to him, no connection with him, but I feel that this democracy will have gotten whether it is a semi-democracy must be nurtured to become a full-blooded democratic system that the future generation will be able to pose with.”
