Nollywood actor Michael Ejoor has opened up on his struggle with depression and how he managed to survive repeated suicide attempts.
Naijaonpoint reports that he revealed during a podcast session with Jay On Air that his experience with depression began 14 years ago after being diagnosed with the condition.
According to him, he once made efforts to end his life on several occasions, including an incident in the United Kingdom where he stepped into the path of a moving car.
The actor explained that his struggles were rooted in feelings of rejection while growing up, which left him believing that he was unloved and unwanted.
He said that despite his appearances on screen, he carried deep emotional pain, describing himself as a troubled child who never felt valued.
Ejoor also said that depression left him with no hope for the future, making it difficult for him to see reasons to live.
At one point, he could not picture himself alive beyond the next day.
He admitted that he initially kept silent about his diagnosis but later found courage to speak about it after encouragement from a friend.
He said: “I didn’t think anybody liked me. I didn’t think anything was going well for me. At one point, I even believed my own father hated me. Despite being on screen and working in Nollywood, I was struggling silently. I saw myself as a terrible child who never got enough recognition or support.”
