Nigerian music video director Praise Onyeagwalam, popularly known as Director Pink, has disclosed how her desire to pursue acting was thwarted.
Speaking in a recent interview on Hip TV, the award-winning cinematographer explained that she had to give up her career because of the sexual exploitation of aspiring actors.
She stated that the humiliation of standing in long queues at movie auditions and receiving shady calls from male filmmakers inviting her to compromising locations led her to switch careers and become her own boss.
“I wanted to be an actress, but the humiliation was too much. Long queues, shady ‘come to this location’ calls. I said ‘No.’ That’s when I chose to be my own boss,” she said.
Director Pink added that being a music video director is also challenging, but she is willing to make sacrifices for her career.
She urged upcoming music video directors to be patient and embrace delayed gratification, stressing that it took those at the peak years to achieve their current status.
Meanwhile, Nigerian actress and producer, Bukky Amos-Bello, has announced the death of her father, Olaniyi Mofolorunsho Amos, describing his passing as a painful but fulfilled journey.
The actress broke the news in an emotional post on her Instagram page, where she shared a photo of her late father and recounted their cherished memories.
In her tribute, Amos-Bello expressed gratitude for her father’s love and presence throughout her life.
She wrote, “Baba mi Amos Olaniyi Mofolorunsho Alamu Oladapo, goodnight. Thank you for sharing your life with me. Thank you for being my ‘forever ajitannawo’. Thank you for being the best father, grandfather and great grandfather.”
The actress revealed that her father had once promised to depart only after witnessing her experience the joy of becoming a grandmother.
She further stated, “I’m typing this smiling, you said you will leave after replacing my love for you. You waited until I became a grandmother, the sparkles on your eyes when I gave you the news. Thank you for sharing your last moments with me.”
Despite the gratitude, Amos-Bello admitted the pain of the loss was overwhelming.
“I’ll forever cherish those eyes that were wide open for me just last night. Baba mi this hurts so deep, your passing hurts so deep but thank you for fulfilling all your promises. I’ll always love you. Sleep tight omo olofamojo,” she concluded.
