Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has warned that he will publicly disclose the details of an agreement reached with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in the presence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, if the governor fails to make it known to the people of the state.
Wike issued the warning on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he addressed political leaders and supporters.
According to the former Rivers governor, the political risks he took at the national level had yielded positive outcomes, unlike developments within Rivers State.
He said President Tinubu had honoured his commitments, citing his appointment as FCT minister and the inclusion of several Rivers indigenes in key federal positions as evidence of the benefits accruing to the state under the current administration.
“If he does not tell the Rivers people the agreement we had before Mr. President, I will tell them myself,” Wike said.
Wike also warned politicians from outside Rivers State to stay away from the state’s political affairs, insisting that only those who understand Rivers politics should be involved.
“If you do not understand the politics of Rivers State, sit at home. Nobody will intimidate us. Before, when the federal government was against us, we won. Now that the federal government is friendly with us, we will win more,” he declared.
He explained that his visit to Eleme was to appreciate the people for their long-standing support, adding that backing President Tinubu had proven beneficial. He urged residents to continue supporting the President and their political leaders as preparations for a new political season begin.
Also speaking, former Senator representing Rivers East Senatorial District, Olaka Nwogu, commended Wike and pledged the support of the Eleme people.
He said the area voted for Governor Fubara at Wike’s directive but alleged that Eleme had not benefited from major projects since Wike left office.
“Whatever he says, we stand by him,” Nwogu said, describing Wike as having been betrayed.
A member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Aforji Igwe, described Wike as a detribalised leader who promoted equity during the 2023 governorship race by supporting a riverine candidate. He assured Wike of continued support from riverine lawmakers.
The Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area, Hon. Obarilomate Ollor, praised Wike for bringing development to Eleme and Rivers State, pledging the council’s support for President Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Other leaders, including Ejor Ejor, former council chairman Hon. Isaac Kamalu, Hon. Fred Igwe, and Marcus Ejii, also pledged loyalty to Wike.
The meeting, attended by leaders from both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), featured the return of some previously estranged political figures. The event climaxed with the presentation of a plaque to Wike in recognition of his contributions to the development of Eleme Local Government Area.
