INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, has promised Nigerians that the commission will deliver a credible and peaceful governorship election in Anambra State on November 8.
Speaking during an inspection visit to the INEC office in Awka on Sunday, he assured citizens that the electoral body is fully ready for the task ahead.
According to him, the commitment is firm and unwavering. “I Won’t Fail Nigerians”, he declared, stressing that the success of the election is a national expectation, not just a state affair.
He issued strict operational orders to field officers. All materials, he said, must reach polling units by 7:00am. Voting must begin at 8:30am. Collation must happen in the presence of party agents. And results must match BVAS entries without exception.
Amupitan explained that INEC is “fully prepared to deliver an election that is fair, credible, and reflective of the people’s will.”
He also cautioned against “attempts by vested interests to discredit the process,” noting that the commission remains focused and unmoved.
Moreover, the INEC Boss added that security arrangements have been strengthened to protect voters, staff, and materials on election day.
According to him, the commission has tightened logistics planning to avoid disruptions experienced in past polls.
The Anambra Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Elizabeth Agwu, also addressed the readiness efforts.
She confirmed that non-sensitive materials are already in all 21 Local Government Areas. She noted that BVAS machines have been tested and configured.
“We have left nothing to chance… every necessary step has been taken to ensure a smooth, credible and technology-driven election,” she said, adding that backup power sources have been deployed to sensitive locations.
The INEC Chairman was accompanied by National Commissioners who inspected offices in Oyi and Awka South LGAs. Election materials were displayed for final checks ahead of movement to registration areas.
The commission emphasized partnership with political parties, security agencies, civil society groups and the media to ensure transparency and public trust.
Meanwhile, this assurance comes at a time when public confidence in elections remains a major national conversation, especially after multiple litigations following recent polls across the country.
