The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has said he would have taken legal action against President Bola Tinubu if he had been given a National Award.

Naijaonpoint reports that the president on Thursday released the official list of 102 awardees for the 2025 Democracy Day National Honours, comprising Nigerians both living and dead, who had contributed to the country’s democratic journey.

However, some Nigerians frowned at the omission of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Dele Momodu and Sowore from the list of awardees.

In a post on his official Facebook page on Friday, the politician cum activist said he would have rejected the award.

Sowore said he would not only reject the award but also sue Tinubu for defamation.

He wrote, “If I were mistakenly included by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his “National Award” list, I would not only reject and denounce the award but also take definitive legal action for defamation”.

In other news, Sowore has described the current coalition talks as hollow, lacking ideological substance and purpose.

Naijaonpoint reports that Sowore’s comments come amidst growing political realignment as various actors position themselves for the next presidential race.

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, have been leading the opposition front.

However, Sowore, during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, warned Nigerians that current coalition efforts lack vision and ideology, and will only strengthen President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election rather than challenge it.
