An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by suspected armed bandits exploded along the Gurusu–Gwashi route in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Wednesday, injuring an unspecified number of passengers.

The explosive went off around 8:32 a.m. on December 10, 2025, hitting a Toyota Eagle Eye vehicle conveying commuters from Gwashi, Zagazola Makama reports.

The blast triggered panic along the busy route, prompting the swift deployment of troops under Operation FANSAN YANMA. Tactical teams and bomb disposal experts were also dispatched to the area to secure the scene and prevent further threats.

Efforts are ongoing to assess the extent of casualties and recover remnants of the device for further analysis.

Military intelligence sources who spoke with security expert, Zagazola Makama, suspect the attack was coordinated by a bandit identified as Sadiku in collaboration with the notorious Dogo Gide faction, which operates across parts of Zamfara and neighbouring states.

In the aftermath of the blast, security agencies have urged road users to exercise caution when travelling along the route and to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.

In a related development, an IED reportedly detonated in Lingir Village, Guzamala Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State, injuring four persons and significantly damaging a truck conveying bags of onions.

The incident, suspected to have been orchestrated by ISWAP terrorists, occurred at approximately 1030 hours as the commercial truck was travelling from Baga Village, Kukawa LGA, en route to Maiduguri.

The four persons injured in the blast, all residents of Maiduguri, were identified as: Umar Isah (25, Driver), Suleiman Isa (22, Passenger), Ibrahim Bala (25, Passenger) and Umar Hassan (22, Passenger).

The truck, with registration number XA 504 GSH Yobe, was significantly damaged by the explosion.
