If I Were Kano Deputy Governor I’ll Rather Resign Before Assembly Impeaches Me – Ketso

Former Niger State Deputy Governor, Ahmed Mohammed Ketso has urged Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, to resign before the House of Assembly is pushed to take action against him over his decision to remain in the NNPP.

Ketso, in an interview with Leadership Newspaper, described the situation as delicate, saying it could create serious challenges for governance and politics in the state.

Naijaonpoint reports that he explained that conflicts of this kind often go beyond personal relationships between leaders.

According to Ketso, even if the governor and his deputy try to work together peacefully, political allies and supporters may worsen the situation, creating suspicion, tension, and mistrust that could escalate into a full crisis.

Since the governor and deputy were elected on a joint ticket, Ketso said their political separation raises questions about how the system should respond.

Attention will likely turn to the Kano State House of Assembly, where lawmakers may consider steps that could lead to impeachment if the crisis deepens. Drawing from his own experience in government, Ketso said the deputy governor faces a risky position.

He suggested that if following the governor becomes impossible on matters of principle, resignation may be the safer option to avoid a confrontation with the legislature.

Ketso added that while the Constitution may not clearly outline such a situation, the joint election makes the political scenario particularly sensitive.

‎“I do not know exactly what the Constitution says about this, but what I know is that they came in on a joint ticket. The question is: what role will the House of Assembly play in all this? They may move towards the impeachment process.

‎If I were in that position, and based on principle I could not defect with the governor, I would rather resign before the House of Assembly is instigated to impeach me,” he said.
