The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has declared that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring that peace returns to Kebbi State and that the 24 girls kidnapped from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area are rescued unhurt.
Egbetokun made the declaration on Tuesday during a visit to Gov. Nasir Idris at Kebbi Government House, Birnin Kebbi.
As earlier reported by Naijaonpoint, the IGP on Tuesday arrived in Kebbi State in the wake of the abduction of students from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga.
Speaking during a visit to Governor Idris, IGP Egbetokun vowed that the Police Force would not relent until peace and normalcy were fully restored in Kebbi State.
According to him, if there is peace in Kebbi, there will be peace in Nigeria by extension.
He described the recent attack in Maga by bandits as an act of terror aimed at instilling fear and disrupting children’s right to education and assured that all hands are on deck to resolve the situation.
Egbetokun assured that the Police is actively working with other security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book and ensure peace across the country.
“I feel deeply pained to visit Kebbi under these circumstances.
“We recognise the profound and intense pressure that has grieved the Danko-Wasagu community in particular and Kebbi state in general.
“I assure you that we understand the gravity of the situation on ground.
“The recent attack on the school in Maga is not just a crime; it is an act of terror designed to break our spirit and deny students their right to learn.
“We have responded adequately by expanding our operational platforms and deepening intelligence-sharing mechanisms with sister security agencies.
“If there is no peace in Kebbi, there can be no peace in Nigeria. If Kebbi is safe, the North-West will be safe, and by extension the entire country,” he said.
Egbetokun promised that the security forces would not rest until peace was restored.
“My visit is to sympathise with the governor and the good people of Kebbi over the unfortunate incident in Maga. We will fight the evil of insecurity until peace is fully restored,” the IGP assured.
In his response, Governor Idris commended the IGP for the visit and assured him of the commitment of his administration to collaborate with the security agencies in ensuring peace prevails across the state.
“We acknowledge and appreciate the IGP and all security agencies that are here.
“We thank them for being alive to their responsibilities. Kebbi is ever ready to partner with the police to enhance security across the state.
“Before this abduction, relative peace had returned to the southern part of the state.
“The government, together with security agencies, will do whatever is necessary to ensure our people sleep with their two eyes closed,” he reiterated.
