The lawmaker representing Niger East Senatorial District, Senator Sani Musa, has demanded the immediate arrest of any person linked to terrorism, declaring that no position, title, or bloodline should shield suspects from prosecution.
Naijaonpoint reports that Musa, speaking at Senate plenary, tied his call to the rapid spread of insecurity now haunting every region, saying the scourge that once began in a single local government had metastasised nationwide.
“No state is immune. I don’t want politics in this issue, not politics; it is a reality. If my brother, my son, if he is doing this thing, he should be picked. The law should take its course,” he said.
Maintaining his stance, Musa stressed that if his son, or any relative, was found complicit in terror, the law must bite.
“If my son or my brother is doing terrorism, arrest me through him. Arrest anyone. The law should take its course,” he emphasised.
The lawmaker challenged the growing culture of criminals walking free despite being monitored, disarmed, or confronted by state forces without consequence.
“They were arrested with AK-47s and released with AK-47s, no gunshots, no arrest, nothing. And then tomorrow, we wake up to another banditry. Why should it end like that?” Musa queried.
Naijaonpoint reports that lawmakers have in recent weeks debated spikes in mass abductions, especially after high-profile school kidnappings in Kebbi and Niger, and ceremonial condemnations that followed instead of arrests.
Musa directed his appeal to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, reminding him that national security sits on the head of leadership.
“Mr President, it is on you as our leader to tackle this issue head-on, without any fear or favour. We will stand for you, we voted for you,” he said.
“We should not be here playing politics with the lives of this country. We must own our responsibilities,” Musa added, backing it with a pledge of institutional support if oversight turned to action.
The Niger leader insisted that terrorism had expanded into every corridor, from the Zaria-Sokoto highway to forest routes in Kwara, Kebbi, and Niger, where kidnappers have only grown bolder.
“We should not be here playing politics with the lives of this country. We must own our responsibilities,” he restated.
