IGP Egbetokun Approves Retraining Lectures For All Policemen

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has approved training and reorientation courses for all policemen.

Naijaonpoint reports that the approval was given on Monday during a virtual meeting between the Inspector General of Police and Commissioners of Police (CPs), Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), and the Force Management Team.

Egbetokun said the training would cause attitudinal change and ensure the consistent maintenance of the code of conduct for all personnel during the execution of their duties.

In a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Police Chief, also, mandated a weekly lecture series across all units of the Force.

While commending their efforts in curbing crimes in 2024, he charged them to improve on their anti-crime strategies to reduce crime drastically in the year 2025.

He stated that enhanced specialized training for Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigators would bolster efficiency and thoroughness, ensuring investigators were equipped to handle increasingly complex and high-profile criminal cases.

“These courses will focus on areas such as human rights, community policing, ethical conduct, and the proportional use of force, reinforcing the Force’s commitment to serving the public with integrity and respect,” he said.

The weekly lectures across all levels of the Force, Divisional, Area Commands and State levels, would teach personnel best practices in policing.

“These lectures will serve as a platform for continuous professional development, ensuring that all police personnel remain informed of evolving legal frameworks, best practices in policing, technological advancements in law enforcement, and other pertinent developments that support the professional execution of their duties.

“The lectures will also provide an opportunity for interactive discussions and knowledge sharing among officers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the Force,” he stated.

The Police Chief stressed that accountability at all levels was crucial to achieving these objectives and that supervisors would be held responsible for any misconduct of their subordinates.

Egbetokun reiterated his commitment to building a more effective and accountable police force that commands the trust and confidence of the citizens.
