Ikimi-led PDP disciplinary committee recommends Anyanwu’s suspension

The committee in a letter dated March 10, 2025, and addressed to Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, stated that despite being given the opportunity, Anyanwu failed to appear before the panel to defend himself against a petition filed by the PDP Young Generation Caucus.

The petition accused Anyanwu of violating Article 58(1)(f) of the PDP Constitution by engaging in anti-party activities. He was also accused of violating Article 58(1)(h) by inviting security agents, thugs, and other individuals to interfere in party affairs at the PDP National Headquarters on January 29 and February 1, 2025.

With the committee submitting its recommendations, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PDP is now expected to make a final decision on the matter.

In February, the committee had also invited former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, Anyanwu, and others over various petitions.

However, after reviewing the complaints, the panel decided to step down three petitions against top National Working Committee (NWC) members to avoid disrupting ongoing reconciliation efforts by the Governors’ Forum and the Board of Trustees.

Meanwhile, Anyanwu has been locked in a legal battle with Sunday Ude-Okoye over the position of National Secretary.

Both the High Court and the Court of Appeal ruled in Ude-Okoye’s favor, prompting Anyanwu to challenge the decision at the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court on Monday, reserved judgement on Anyanwu’s appeal, in which he seeks to overturn the Court of Appeal’s ruling that upheld his removal as PDP National Secretary.

Through his counsel, Ken Njemanze (SAN), Anyanwu urged the apex court to set aside the lower court’s decision and reinstate him.
