Super Eagles hopeful Chuba Akpom is confident he can help Ipswich Town achieve their goal of securing an immediate return to the Premier League after joining the Tractor Boys on loan from Ajax Amsterdam, Footynaija.com reports.

Ipswich Town announced their acquisition of the Hale End Academy alum on Sunday, after brushing past competition from EFL Championship rivals Birmingham City to land the London-born striker.

Akpom will spend the entirety of the 2025/2026 season on loan at Portman Road, after which the Tractor Boys have an obligation to sign him on a permanent basis for £7 million if they gain promotion back to the English top flight.

Chuba Akpom’s message to Ipswich fans

Speaking to club media for the first time following his arrival, the 29-year-old striker revealed that his sojourn across Europe has made him a better player and that he’s ready to use his experience to help his new team.

“I was really excited when I heard of the interest and I’m delighted to have joined a club with such big ambitions,” Chuba told TownTV. “I watch a lot of football and have always thought Ipswich would suit my style, so this move makes perfect sense.

“I have had lots of good experiences over the last few years, at Ajax and playing in the Champions League with Lille, and I feel like all of these have improved me as a player and helped me be the person I am now.

“I’m here to do as much as I can do to help the team, in the changing room and on the pitch, and I’ll bring a winning mentality here.”

Akpom was pretty insistent on joining Ipswich Town despite receiving offers from other suitors. Now that he’s got his preferred move, he’ll be looking to hit the ground running and contribute significantly as the Tractor Boys chase their Premier League ambitions.
