I’m Aware Of Your Challenges – President Tinubu Tells Universities

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerian universities that his administration was committed to addressing challenges confronting the university system.

Naijaonpoint reports the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Said Ahmad, stated this as she represented the President at the 44th Convocation Ceremony of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, on Saturday.

Tinubu challenged universities to intensify research efforts and bring out practical solutions to challenges affecting the economy.

He noted that the practical application of this knowledge could help meet their electricity needs and contribute to societal development.

He emphasized the importance of not being hindered by outdated practices in universities.

“The Federal Government is aware of the challenges universities face in settling their electricity bills and is making conscious efforts to alleviate this situation, ensuring that universities can function optimally,” he said.

The President said food security remained a priority for his administration and hoped that universities through research would assist the government in addressing hunger challenges.

“Food security is a top priority for this administration, with universities and research institutes playing a key role in advancing agriculture, particularly through climate-smart practices.

“The government through TETFUND has allocated Thirty Billion Naira (N30B) to support mechanized farming in Universities of Agriculture and universities with Faculty of Agriculture,” he stated.

He further highlighted the government’s commitment to addressing the unemployment of youths through vocational and technical education.

“Additionally, the administration is focused on reforming Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to foster entrepreneurship and empower young Nigerians to become economically self-reliant. This initiative aims to enhance skills development and strengthen the nation’s workforce,” he added.

President Tinubu congratulated the Pro-Chancellor, the Governing Council, University management, Senate members, staff, graduating students, parents, guardians, and well-wishers.

He encouraged the graduates to apply their knowledge in contributing to national development.
