Veteran Nollywood actress Toyin Afolayan, popularly known as Lola Idije, has explained that the stern and tough characters she often plays in movies are different from her true personality.
Naijaonpoint reports that the 65-year-old actress shared this during a conversation with fellow actress Ayo Adesanya, where she said her real life is guided by her faith in God and a modest lifestyle, far from the habits often linked to the roles she plays on screen.
“I am not wicked in reality. My faith in God guides me, and I live a modest lifestyle. I don’t indulge in drinking, smoking, or other habits people often associate with movie characters,” she said.
Lola Idije, who hails from Agbamu in Kwara State, is a relative of the late Nollywood pioneer Adeyemi Afolayan, popularly known as Ade Love.
She credited him for shaping her early steps in the industry.
Her breakthrough came in 1995 when she played Madam Adisa in the movie Deadly Affair.
Since then, she has become well known for her strong mother-in-law roles and for creating popular phrases like “Soro Soke Werey” and “Pele My Dear,” which later spread widely on social media.
Although she once considered going into business, she revealed that her late brother encouraged her to choose acting, a decision that has defined her long-running career.
