I’m not desperate to be president, I just want Nigeria to work – Peter Obi

Peter Obi

THE former governor of Anambra State and 2023 presidential candidate under the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has said his desire is not driven by ambition for power but by a commitment to seeing Nigeria function effectively.

Obi, who finished third in the 2023 general election behind President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made this remark during a special Anniversary Sabbath service at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Umuahia. The event marked the second anniversary of Governor Alex Otti’s administration.

“I am not desperate to be Nigeria’s president,” Obi stated. “But I am desperate to see the country work.”

His comments come amid renewed political discourse, including reports of possible collaborations among leading opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, and himself, as revealed by Atiku’s spokesperson.
